About The Game
Girls’ Flag Football is a variation of 7-on-7 competition football where the play is stopped by pulling the runner’s flag. This is a sport similar to field hockey or soccer. Girls’ Flag football became an official CIF sport in the 2023-24 school year. Monta Vista’s program began in the 2024-25 school year. The 2025 season saw significant changes to make the game more exciting. To create a more consistent game across the country, several changes were made including punting on 4th down, screen blocking, a 1-yard rush, eliminating the 7 second QB clock and allowing for unlimited QB runs. The game is played on an 80-yard by 40-yard field with 3 first down zones. The offense is required to go 20-yards, in 4-plays for a first down. Flag football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. For the girls who always wanted to play football, you now have your own space to SHINE!
